The headline is not the real story

Usage charts measure what ships with the platform, not what teams choose. The top of the CNCF survey is a dependency. The number behind it is the story, because that is where stateful workloads actually land.

  • etcd is a dependency, not a choice. It keeps cluster state and comes free with Kubernetes.
  • Longhorn is the storage teams deploy. Block storage built for Kubernetes, with synchronous replication.
  • It installs with one command and has a web UI, so no storage specialist needed.
