At tens of thousands of seats, AI token costs stop looking like a tool line and start looking like payroll.
- Microsoft cut individual monthly AI spending in its Cloud and AI group from as much as $100,000 to about $10,000, and its projected internal Anthropic bill fell by more than a third.
- Meta’s internal Claude Code users dropped from roughly 60,000 to about 30,000. It spent more than $105 million on the tool in one recent 28 day period.
- The replacement is in house. MetaCode carries more than 30,000 internal users and Muse Code more than 6,000.
- The pullback is internal only. Customer demand for Claude through Azure and Bedrock keeps growing, so this is budget discipline, not a broken partnership.
